  • Tottenham have appointed Scott Munn as their new chief football officer
  • It comes as part of a six-month review by the club into footballing activities

  • Should Paratici’s ban be overturned, Munn will come in above him as his boss

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Scott Munn as their new chief football officer after a six-month review into footballing activities.

In a statement released earlier today, Spurs announced that ‘Scott will be joining the Club’s Board and will take charge of all footballing departments’ after chairman Daniel Levy announced the review during following the release of the club’s financial accounts.

Munn was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of City Football Group in China back in 2019 and had previously worked for nine years with A-League side Melbourne City FC as their Chief Executive Officer.

The Australian also has extensive experience working outside of football, starting his career within the Sydney Organising Committee for the 2000 Olympic Games, before moving to work with the National Rugby League (NRL) and the Australian Football League (AFL).

Spurs chairman Levy said: ‘Scott has a unique and broad experience of running sporting organisations at the highest level and will take responsibility for the leadership and management of our football activities to instil best practice both on and off the pitch.’

The appointment is reportedly not linked to Fabio Paratici's ban, with the Italian to report to Munn should his ban be over-turned following it's appeal later this april

The appointment is reportedly not linked to Fabio Paratici’s ban, with the Italian to report to Munn should his ban be over-turned following it’s appeal later this april

The news comes at a time of turmoil for the football club, with their manager Antonio Conte leaving in explosive circumstances, after he raged at his playing cohort in an interview in an extraordinary interview.

But just days after the Italian departed by, it was also announced that their director of football Fabio Paratici, who was tasked with finding Conte’s replacement, would also be banned from football worldwide.

Paratici was handed a 30-month ban by the Italian FA back in January after he was involved in Juventus’ false accounting scandal and that ban was extended by FIFA to apply worldwide.

But according to the Athletic, while Paratici will appeal his ban later this month, there is reportedly no link between his absence at the club and Munn’s recruitment, with David Ornstein suggesting that the Italian, ‘pending his ban would report to Munn.’

Spurs are seeking to improve both their on-field and off-field staff but performance director Gretar Steinsson and head of football strategy, Andy Scoulding are currently taking over Paratici’s work load in the Italian’s absence.

It has been a tumultuous few weeks for Spurs both on the pitch and in the board room, but perhaps Munn’s appointment can steady the ship and may help in keeping star striker Harry Kane at the football club.

Much speculation has revolved around the 29-year-olds future at the club with his contract set to expire in 2024, with the England captain having still not yet signed a new contract with Tottenham.

Many clubs including Manchester United seem to be sniffing at his availability and it was reported recently that even Real Madrid could look to make a move for England’s leading goal scorer.

But it presents further woes for Spurs fans in a difficult season for the club who have fallen to fifth in the Premier League and could, if they cannot come good towards the end of the campaign, miss out on Champions League football next season.

Tottenham’s Supporters Trust have called the whole situation ‘extremely concerning situation’ and reccently took to Twitter to express their concerns over how the club has handled recent events.

Speaking on Paratici’s ban, they said: ‘This news adds further to the extremely concerning situation at the Club.

‘No manager, no director of football and uncertainty around our star player and our end of season finish. Fans deserve to hear a clear state of strategy from THFC.’
