Tottenham release four stars after Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge – including £25MILLION signing who made just ONE appearance this season

Tottenham have bid farewell to four stars at the end of their contracts.

Two of them have already secured moves to other clubs while the other two become free agents. 

Ange Postecoglou’s side are evolving as they prepare for his second season at the club, having finished fifth in his debut Premier League season.

Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, and Japhet Tanganga will not be part of that next phase of development. 

‘We thank Eric, Ivan, Ryan and Japhet for their service to the Club and wish them all the very best for the future,’ the club said in a statement.

Son Heung-min posted this tribute to Spurs’ departing players on his Instagram story 

Dier joined Bayern Munich on loan in January and triggered an option to make his move permanent in March after reaching an appearance quota. 

He managed 20 outings for Bayern in an impressive loan spell, uprooting centre-backs Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano to become a regular in Thomas Tuchel’s team. 

The 30-year-old will now spend time under the tutelage of Vincent Kompany, who signed a three-year deal at the Allianz Arena after leaving Burnley. 

Perisic, meanwhile, has joined boyhood club Hajduk Split after initially joining on loan in January.  

The 34-year-old signed for the Croatian side with the intention of going permanently and now starts a one-year deal there.

A serious anterior cruciate ligament injury meant he only managed six appearances in his final half-season for Spurs. 

Sessegnon signed for Spurs for £25m from Fulham in 2019 but the left-sided player only managed 57 games in five injury-hit seasons. 

Once seen as one of the brightest young prospects in the English game, Sessegnon only managed one outing this season due to injury but will be hoping to rebuild elsewhere.

Ivan Perisic has linked up with boyhood club Hajduk Split permanently after his initial loan 

Youth academy product Japhet Tanganga has seen his progress stalled by injury but looks to build on a loan spell at Millwall

As for Tanganga, he saw his first-team prospects decline despite an initially promising start to life when Mauricio Pochettino brought him out of the academy in 2019. 

The defender made 50 appearances for Spurs but spent the entirety of this season out on loan, first at Augsburg, where he played no matches due to injury, and latterly at Millwall. 

Spurs have also let go of several younger stars. 

Charlie Sayers leaves the development squad alongside Billy Heaps. 

Under-18s players Kieran Morgan and Han Willhoft-King – who were with the club since the under-8s and under-7s respectively – have also been let go. 

‘We thank Charlie, Billy, Kieran, Han and their families for their hard work and dedication to our Academy and wish them well for the future,’ Tottenham said.
