  • Aussie world champ Mick Fanning hit with another family tragedy
  • His brother Edward Fanning has reportedly died overseas
  • Older brothers Peter (2015) and Sean (1998) died previously

Aussie surfing legend Mick Fanning is reportedly enduring another family tragedy after his brother Edward died.

The shocking news follows the death of Mick’s older brother Peter in 2015 and another brother, Sean Fanning, dying in a car crash at Coolangatta in 1998.

It is believed Ed Fanning, aged in his 40s, had been living and working at a surf tour camp in Madagascar.

Edward’s best mate, Coolangatta bodyboarder Stevie Maher, took to Facebook to relay the devastating news.

‘Firstly I want to send my condolences to the Fanning family…mum Liz, dad John, sister Rachel and brother Mick,’ Maher posted.

‘My heart is broken to hear the passing of my best mate. I enjoyed and had so many amazing times with you Eddie.

‘You were in my wedding party, had so many epic times together in Indo and we were just best mates.

‘I’m goin’ to miss you Eddie and now you rest in peace.’

In 2015, three-time world champion Fanning was famously attacked by a shark off Jefferys Bay, in South Africa while competing in the J-Bay Open surfing contest.

The experience, viewed by thousands of horrified onlookers on live TV, left Fanning with post traumatic stress disorder and recurring nightmares in the years to follow.

‘2015 was such a down year,’ Fanning said. ‘I went through a divorce, had the shark incident and then at the end of it all I lost my brother [with an enlarged heart].

‘I was just totally empty at the end of it. I was done.’
