A Washington State Patrol trooper is being hailed a hero after a dramatic dashboard camera video has emerged showing him saving a suicidal man from a bridge in the nick of time.
According to the law enforcement agency, just before 7.40pm on August 11, Trooper Yaroslav Holodkov was dispatched to the State Route 529 Snohomish River Bridge in response to a report about a man who appeared intent on taking his own life.
When Holodkov pulled over, he observed the man standing on the ledge of the northbound span, looking down toward the water.

Footage captured by a camera installed in Holodkov’s police vehicle shows the trooper approach the man and begin talking with him, encouraging him to step away from the ledge and repeatedly saying, ‘don’t do it.’
The man is seen in the video crouching down on the span and as Holodkov walks up to assist him off the ledge, he takes a leap over the side of the bridge.
According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, Holodkov reacted quickly and was able to grab the man’s shirt, pulling him back to the ledge with one hand.
In the video, Holodkov restrains the man’s hands behind his back with handcuffs, apparently in an effort to prevent him from making another attempt on his life, and sits him down on the guard rail.
The suicidal man was subsequently transported to a hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.
