Jason Humphreys, 39, is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl he met on Snapchat

A truck driver accused of the horrific rape of a 13-year-old girl he met on Snapchat was on bail at the time for allegedly sexually assaulting and choking a woman.

Jason Humphreys, 39, was arrested at Panania in Sydney’s western suburbs on Monday evening and charged with 17 offences including aggravated sexual intercourse with a child, sexual intercourse with a child and common assault.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the young girl on multiple occasions in a truck and a home he was renting in south-western Sydney.

As Humphreys was refused bail at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday, it was revealed the New South Wales Attorney-General was urgently reviewing why he was freed last year.

He was allowed bail despite being charged last April with four counts including sexual intercourse without consent and intentionally choking a woman.

He is accused of meeting her on social media as well, the Canterbury-Bankstown Express reported.

NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman said he had ordered an urgent transcript of the bail hearing.

‘Any allegations of child grooming and sexual assault are of immense concern,’ he said.

‘I have ordered an urgent transcript of the accused offender’s bail hearing which I will review.’

Detectives allege Humphreys sexually assaulted the 13-year-old on several occasions this month at the house in Lurnea where he rented a room.

They said he also attacked her in his truck last week while travelling from Sydney to Canberra.

Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec says the pair initially met online in late 2019.

He urged young people to be aware of who they could be dealing with online.

‘We just can’t make it loud enough,’ he said.
