Trump says Jeb’s son is the ‘Bush that got it right’ in slap at family in Texas

‘This is the only Bush that likes me’: Trump says Jeb’s son ‘is the Bush that got it right’ in new dig at Barbara’s family in their home state of Texas

  • President Trump is fundraising in Texas and signed a pair of executive orders during a stop in Houston
  • The Bush family hails from Texas and the state’s land commissioner, George P. Bush, attended the afternoon event
  • Trump faced off against his father, Jeb, in the 2016 presidential primary
  • Sitting president had bad blood with family matriarch Barbara, who died last year; she was very critical of him after he slapped around her son
  • He is also on bad terms with Jeb, George W. Bush and Barbara’s late husband
  • Said in Texas that George P. Bush is the only one of the bunch he gets along with
  • He said of the rising star: ‘Truly, this is the Bush that got it right’

President Trump took another slap at Barbara Bush and her sons on Wednesday in their native state of Texas.

Before he signed a pair of executive orders, the president noted the presence of the deceased first lady’s grandson, George P. Bush, at the event in a suburb of Houston.

‘This is the only Bush that likes me. This is the only one,’ the president declared. ‘Truly, this is the Bush that got it right.’

The U.S. president added: ‘I like him. He’s going far.’

Bush is the Texas land commissioner and the son of former presidential candidate Jeb Bush.

He is also the nephew of former President George W. Bush and the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush.

The family rose to political prominence in the state of Texas, which George H.W. represented in Congress and George W. presided over as governor. The Houston airport is named after George Bush senior.

Trump landed at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, not the international airport that bears the name of the deceased president whose family he couldn’t resist jabbing.

The Bushes were on his mind this week, after Barbara’s criticisms of him were revealed in ‘The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty.’ The book relies on diary entries from the late first lady, including one pre-dating the presidency that says ‘Trump now means greed, selfishness and ugly. So sad.’

She also wrote in her diary that she believed Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential election. When she awoke the next morning, she ‘discovered to my horror that Trump had won.’

Both George W. and George H.W. Bush have said that they did not vote for Trump in the last election. Jeb Bush said last month that someone should challenge Trump from within the party in 2020.

‘I have heard that she was nasty to me, but she should be. Look what I did to her sons,’ Trump told the Washington Times in an Oval Office interview last Thursday.

He noted that he had an ugly rivalry with Jeb in particular, who he dubbed ‘low energy.’

‘Look, she’s the mother of somebody that I competed against. Most people thought he was going to win, and he was quickly out,’ Trump said.

Jeb Bush dropped out of the 2016 primary after performing poorly against Trump.

“I hit him very hard in South Carolina,” Trump said. “Remember? He was supposed to win South Carolina and I won it in a landslide. I hit him so hard.’

The president also hit the former president, George W. Bush, for the Iraq invasion on the campaign trail. He said he ‘lied’ about weapons of mass destruction.

He later said of the father and son former presidents: ‘I know that when his father went in and his father actually did something pretty good because he pulled back. He didn’t get into the trap. But I know that Saddam Hussein was taunting the father.

‘He was saying all sorts of things because of the fact intelligently they pulled back,’ Trump told Fox News.

He said that Bush the younger wanted to avenge his father and got the U.S. into a war in the process.

Trump said, ‘The son loves the father and I think he felt very hurt by it. He didn’t like him.’
