Trump wishes wounded troops Merry Christmas at Walter Reed

President Donald Trump stopped by Walter Reed on Thursday afternoon to spread Christmas cheer to the troops.

Trump, in his second visit to the military hospital just outside of Washington, planned to wish service members Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

In brief remarks to reporters on the South Lawn before he lifted off in Marine One, Trump said he wanted ‘to say hello’ to ‘some of the bravest people anywhere in the world.’

‘They’re great people,’ he added. ‘We love those people!’

The president, who had nothing else on his schedule this afternoon, said he planned to be at the Bethesda, Maryland, medical center for awhile before he returns to the White House.

First Lady Melania Trump did not accompany her husband to the hospital for wounded service members. She and son Barron have already begun this Christmas holiday.

The Palm Beach Daily News reported earlier in the week that the first lady and the 11-year-old had been spotted at President Trump’s Palm Beach club Mar-a-Lago.

Flight restrictions indicate that President Trump will soon join them, with the FAA putting out a warning that stretched from Wednesday to Jan. 1.

His holiday plans have not been confirmed yet by the White House, but he and his family have typically spent their Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in Palm Beach at what is now being referred to as the Winter White House.

Before Trump leaves town he is expected to sign the GOP’s tax cut bill into law. It is unclear whether he will stick until a spending resolution is ready for his signature, too.

This afternoon, he was all about serving up a happy holiday to wounded troops, delivering a disciplined statement on jaunt to the Maryland city that borders Washington as reporters attempted to shout questions at him about a contentious United Nations vote.

This is his second trip to the hospital since taking office on Jan. 20.
