Tyson Fury has a massive night on the drink in Melbourne, says he wants to hold fight in Australia

An animated Tyson Fury has opened up about his night on the tiles after landing in Melbourne to support his good friend Jospeh Parker in his bout against Faiga ‘Django’ Opelu on Wednesday night.

Fury, the current WBC heavyweight champion, arrived in Melbourne on Saturday and just hours later was pictured out on the town drinking at CBD nightclub Bond Bar.

The Gypsy King was was welcomed by the club’s VIP host George Christoudias and mingled with other guests for several hours.

At Monday’s press conference, Fury admitted he was feeling a little under the weather after getting stuck into a few beverages.

‘Had a lot of drinks last night and I think I needed them as well because I am jet-lagged to f**k,’ Fury said.

‘I think it’s like 3am where I’m from so I feel like I’m on cuckoo land, so excuse me a little bit.’

Fury, who has struck up a close friendship with Parker in recent years, explained why he had made the long trip Down Under.

‘Me and Joe are like brothers,’ Fury said.

‘He supported me in my career in Las Vegas and all over the world. I’m here to support him in his fight in Melbourne.’

Fury also confirmed that he was visiting Australia to scout a venue for a potential boxing blockbuster – although no opponent has been named.

‘I’m very excited to be here in Melbourne,’ Fury said.

‘It’s my first time in Australia. I’m looking to do a fight here, so I’ll be going up and down the country looking at different stadiums over the next few days.

Fury, who has struck up a formidable friendship with Parker in recent years, said he and the Kiwi heavyweight are ‘like brothers’

Fury also explained that he was visiting Australia to scout a venue for a potential blockbuster bout – however, an opponent hasn’t been named

‘I’m 100 per cent serious [about fighting in Australia].’

It’s understood that the leading contenders to host a Fury fight are Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and Marvel Stadium in Melbourne – but Fury doesn’t have a preference at the moment.

Parker, who’s Australasia’s most accomplished heavyweight, wants to make a statement when he faces Opelu on Wednesday and climb back into title contention.

‘I want to perform and look good doing it,’ Parker explained to foxsports.com.au.

‘Want to show people why they picked me to come here and fight in Australia.

‘Against Joe Joyce, I got sick before the fight and it really messed up my whole preparation.’

However, the Kiwi heavyweight isn’t taking Opelu lightly and is prepared for a battle when he steps into the ring.

‘I lot of people are saying I should go out there and blast Django out,’ Parker said.

‘And I know what I’m capable of. But Django, he presents difficulties

‘He’s confident, throws a lot of punches and doesn’t shy away from a challenge.

‘He’s fought Justis Huni, Lucas Browne … he puts it on you, can move, so I’m taking this fight very seriously.’ 

Nikita Tszyu will feature as the co-main against undefeated Victorian Benjamin Bommber, while former AFL great Cameron Mooney will make his professional boxing debut against retired Essendon star Tom Bellchambers.
