Authorities have released an urgent recall of organic eggs over fears they are contaminated with salmonella.

Southern Highland Organic Eggs are being recalled by Synergy Produce Pty Ltd due to potential microbial contamination.

The urgent recall includes both the six and 12 pack of the eggs with dates up to and including May 9.

The contaminated eggs have been available for sale at Woolworths in New South Wales and Victoria.

They have also been on the shelves at IGA stores across NSW and other independent retailers in the state. 

The NSW Food Authority warns consumers that food contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SALMONELLA 

– Fever

– Headaches

– Severe Diarrhoea

– Nausea

– Vomiting 

‘Consumers should not eat this product,’ the authority said in a statement. 

Full refunds are available for the contaminated product.  

‘Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund,’ the statement continues. 

The recall comes almost two weeks after eggs sold at IGA and bakeries across NSW were recalled due to salmonella fears.

The NSW Food Authority issued the urgent recall on behalf of CR and M Ash and Sons.

Impacted products include Blue Mountains Free Range Eggs 700g, Blue Mountains Cage Free Eggs 700g, Fresh Eggs From My Farm 800g, Farm Fresh Eggs 600g, 700g, 800g and single sticker eggs with a best before date April 26 and May 3.

Salmonellosis symptoms include fever, headache, severe diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.

Symptoms usually start around six to 72 hours after the contaminated food is eaten and can last for four to seven days but can continue for much longer.
