Vic Police union slams court sentencing

Victoria’s police association has slammed the judiciary for being “out of touch” after failing to impose a mandatory jail sentence to a woman who bit a police officer.

Police Association of Victoria assistant secretary Bruce McKenzie told reporters on Friday he was “outraged, disgusted” that a woman had been “able to walk away” with a two-year community corrections order for biting the officer rather than serve a mandatory sentence.

“Police officers, paramedics, the Victorian community, we have had enough of this and we certainly hope that this is the last so-called penalty in the form of a Community Corrections Order … which is no penalty at all,” he said.
