West Ham are still waiting on Harry Maguire to decide if he wants to leave Manchester United after a £30million fee was agreed between the clubs.

Manager David Moyes is keen on the 30-year-old central defender, though before personal terms can be discussed, the Hammers are awaiting confirmation that Maguire wants to make the move.

Maguire could yet insist on staying at United, where he is contracted until 2025 with the option to extend for a further year, or wait to see if other offers arrive for him in the summer’s transfer window.

But West Ham are hopeful that he will see the benefits of joining them.

That includes being able to offer the England international guaranteed game-time ahead of Euro 2024 next summer, while Moyes would also consider naming him immediate captain after the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Maguire has already been stripped of the captaincy at United by Erik ten Hag, who is planning for the next season without him in his defence.

It remains to be seen what salary West Ham can offer Maguire, who is reportedly on £190,000 a week at Old Trafford.

Moyes will be quizzed on Maguire and West Ham’s other potential signings, such as Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, in his first press conference of the season on Friday afternoon. Lucas Paqueta will also be a topic of discussion with Manchester City interested in the Hammers playmaker.
