The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is set to be turned into a TV series.
HBO and Warner Bro bosses are turning the seven book series into a TV show, 20 years after JK Rowling’s stories were first made into eight films.
The show will air on HBO Max and Discovery+’s combined new service dubbed Max. While the show has been announced, there has been no news on the release date or when filming will begin.
None of the movie stars will star in the adaptation, yet the show is pegged to be a ‘decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for’, according to the TV giant.

How was the Harry Potter show announced?
News of the widely-speculated show was revealed during the announcement that HBO Max and Discovery+ are combining to create a new service dubbed Max.
Warner Bros Discovery CEO, David Zaslav made the big reveal.
He divulged: ‘The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years…
‘Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.’
Is JK Rowling involved?
The controversial author, who was absent from the movie’s recent 20th anniversary special, is heavily involved in the new show.
The brains behind the wizarding franchise, who has recently sparked fury over her views on trans rights, said she is ‘looking forward’ to being part of the new Harry Potter series and going into depth and detail which the films weren’t able to do.
The multimillionaire author said: ‘Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me.
‘I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series’.

Are the movie stars returning?
Stars of the eight original movies will not make a comeback for the new series.
The show will feature an entirely new cast from the films which saw Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) rise to fame.
The announcement detailed: ‘The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.’
Where and when will the show air?
The show will air on HBO Max and there has been no timeline regarding when the show will start shooting or air.
Who is producing the show?
JK Rowling will executive produce the series alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman is currently in talks to executive produce.
