Andre Edwards, 25, is facing murder charges after killing two when she crashed her SUV into a disabled school bus in May. Edwards was allegedly under the influence of THC and alcohol

An Ann Arbor woman has been arraigned on murder charges after her SUV slammed into the rear of a disabled school bus, killing two people earlier this year.

A fugitive team arrested 25-year-old Andre Edwards in suburban Detroit on Tuesday.

She faces two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of operating [a vehicle] while intoxicated causing death, three counts of child abuse and other charges.

On May 29, Nader Chehadi, 42, was helping to tow the school bus on the I-94 and was standing behind it when Edwards hit him and the bus.

Chehadi, a father of two, was killed instantly, while 28-year-old Antoinette Butler, who had been a passenger in Edwards’ car, died a few days later in hospital.

The bus was empty at the time of the crash.

Since 2009, the 25-year-old had been disqualified from driving twice, her more recent exclusion for three or more alcohol-related convictions in less than 10 years.

Police allege Edwards was also under the influence of THC and alcohol while she was driving, and she faces multiple charges for both driving and causing injury without a valid license.

Witnesses say they saw Edwards’ car veer suddenly across all lanes of the highway to the right and drive on to the shoulder before trying to get back on to the road.

At this point, the SUV is reported to have hit the bus, Detroit News reported.

Edwards is being held on a $500,000 bond following her arraignment on Wednesday.
