World’s longest zipwire lets you fly like Superman in UAE

This clip shows how thrill-seekers will soon soar from the peak of Jebel Jais mountain on the world’s longest zip line.

Adrenaline junkies can launch from the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates – to fly face-down over desert Superman-style.

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) and Toro Verde will complete construction in December 2017, but have offered a hair-raising preview of the experience.

Launching from 1,934m above sea level, the zip line will be more than three times the length of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.

Speeds will reach from 55mph to 80mph along the line, which is as long as 28 football pitches combined.

Daredevils will be harnessed to the zip line to take in the breathtaking desert views – if they’re brave enough to keep their eyes open.

After hitting a suspended landing platform, guests will be transferred to a second line that measures 300m to return to the ground.

The seven-tonne cable will consist of two lines so family and friends can take on the challenge together.

Although the precise zip length is being kept secret until the opening, it’s expected to be certified by the Guinness World Records as the longest zip line.

Its unique location may also make it highest too.

Toro Verde’s adventure park in Puerto Rico holds the current world record for the longest zip line, which is 2,530m.

Haitham Mattar, CEO of RAKTDA said: ‘Opening within the heart of the UAE’s highest and most iconic natural mountain range, the Jebel Jais zip line experience will consist of two lines, allowing friends and family to take part in the flight together.

‘On arrival at the Welcome Centre, which features a lounge, restaurant, lockers, equipment storage and offices, participants will be given a pre-briefing and then escorted to the launch platform and fitted with a special suit and equipment for this adventure.

‘This zip line will be like no other experience out there.

‘Once harnessed to the zip line in a horizontal superhero position, participants will soar through the sky as if they’re a bird. In its first phase of operations, the zip line will be able to accommodate 250 people a day, that’s 100,000 in a year.’
