Young Aussie in Bali is left close to tears after uncovering hidden message on restaurant receipt

A young Aussie was almost brought to tears by a comment written on her receipt when she ordered takeaway from a Bali restaurant.

Montana was visiting the Indonesian island when she bought several dishes and noticed the name ‘Ms Cantik’ referring to her on the printed receipt.

The word ‘cantik’ means ‘beautiful’ in the Indonesian language Bahasa.

‘I almost cried,’ Montana said.

The traveller shared the moment she found the message in a post on TikTok.

‘I bet you she was expecting me to not know this word in Indonesian, but I knew it,’ she said.

Montana explained that staff usually ask for her name to put with their order, but they didn’t on this occasion.

‘I thought they must have remembered it… wrong. She put a descriptor in Indonesian as my order name,’ she said.

Aussie traveller Montana (pictured) discovered the name was referring to her as one of the customers of the restaurant after she ordered takeaway at the eatery in Bali

‘What she didn’t realise is, it was on the receipt’.

In her TikTok video, Montana showed a copy of the receipt that was attached to the top of a brown takeaway bag.

The name is understood to have been used by staff at the restaurant to help them identify food orders placed by each customer.

Social media users said they initially thought the term might have been disrespectful.

‘I was thinking it was something rude, but how stupid of me to forget that Indonesians, especially in Bali, are the loveliest people,’ one wrote.

‘Why did I think it was a bad word, so kind!’ another said.

Others said they had also revealed similar messages when they visited restaurants in Bali.

‘I got a receipt with ‘ganteng’ [which means handsome] on it,’ one person wrote.

Montana said the secret message had made her day.
