Fan brings Nick Kyrgios Australian Open match to a halt

A lunatic fan has brought a headline Australian Open match to a halt after he began taking a selfie while screaming.

Crowd favourite Nick Kyrgios was preparing to serve for the game in the second set of his second round match on Wednesday night when he was interrupted by the crazed man who was standing directly alongside his player’s box.

The cries appear to just be a nonsensical howl rather than any particular words, but were enough to earn the unwanted attention of the players, crowd and security.

Kyrgios, a 17th seed at his home Grand Slam, was lining up a serve to consolidate an early break in the second set.

The 22-year-old was beginning to wind up when the man, visible over his back shoulder, began shrieking while catching it all on film.

The Australian tennis star looked up in bewilderment as the madman spun around catching the reception of the shocked audience on his phone.

Boos rang out as a nearby man attempted to push the man away while looking around for help.

‘I thought he was just taking a photo of himself but then he went into a chant of some sort,’ sideline reporter Roger Rasheed added.

‘But then it continued so there was a little bit of concern but he was quickly ushered out.’

The 22-year-old was fine $3,000 US after his first round match for unsportsmanlike conduct after swearing at a fan who was bothering him.

He managed to keep control of himself on this occasion and avoid losing any more money.
