Fortnite on Android: When is it available to download and do you need a Galaxy Note 9 phone to play?

  • After months of waiting, Fortnite will reportedly be available on Android soon
  • Some reports have suggested it will only be available at first on a specific device
  • Other reports have indicated it may only be available to download a certain way

The hit video game Fortnite will finally be available to play on Android sometime in the near future – but not everyone will be thrilled if some specific details ahead of the game’s launch turn out to be more than rumors.

Recent reports have suggested that a specific device will be required to play the game and that downloading it won’t be quite as simple as just installing it from the Google Play Store.

Notably, none of these early reports have been confirmed by Epic Games or Google so far.

Here’s everything you need to know about when Fortnite will be available on Android, if gamers need a Galaxy Note 9 to play as some reports have stated and information about the video game itself.

When is Fortnite available on Android?

As of yet, no official release date has been formally announced by Epic Games for Fortnite’s availability on Android.

More details could possibly be revealed, however, at the Galaxy Note 9 launch event on Thursday, August 9 in New York City.

Do gamers need a Galaxy Note 9 to play?

Recent reports have suggested that the hit game will only be available to play on the Galaxy Note 9 for the first 30 days. These reports have yet to be confirmed by Epic Games or Google.

In addition, other new reports have revealed that Epic Games possibly plans to walk users through downloading and installing the video game on their Android phones. Rather than simply containing a link to the Google Play Store and downloading it directly, users will reportedly be instructed how to install the app directly from a browser.

This seems to indicate that Epic Games intends for users to bypass Google’s official app store in order to download Fortnite. Some have suggested that this could be a way to avoid Google’s 30 per cent fee for in-app purchases.

Notably, neither Epic Games nor Google has made any official announcements confirming how to download the game once it’s become available, so early reports suggesting this method of installation could ultimately prove to be inaccurate.

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a popular shooter video game with more than 125 million players worldwide.

The video game’s wildly-popular battle royale mode, which sees 100 players duke it out in action-packed, intense matches that blend first-person shooter gameplay with fort building and survival elements, has taken the video gaming world by storm since its release back in September 2017.

In addition to its upcoming release on Android, Fortnite was also recently made available on Nintendo Switch following an announcement at the E3 2018 convention in Los Angeles, California. It’s also available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS and iOS.
