Guy and Jules Sebastian host free carols gig to help domestic violence victims

‘Domestic violence does not discriminate. It is happening everywhere around us’: Guy Sebastian and wife Jules host charity carols concert to raise funds for victims

As Guy Sebastian and wife Jules are lighting up the stage at their annual carols concert this year, they’ll also be raising much needed funds to help victims of Australia’s domestic violence epidemic.

Jules said the idea to donate the money to support shelters came to her while she was at the park with their two sons Hudson and Archer.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the stylist said she had met a grandmother who had just had her daughter and grandchildren move back in with her to escape their violent father.

‘Domestic violence does not discriminate, it is happening everywhere around us,’ Jules told the publication.

‘It was a very normal everyday thing I was doing, taking my kids to the park and I’m sitting next to someone who is going through that and you would never in a million years think that was happening to that woman.’

Concerned about the high rates of domestic violence across the country the pair decided to ask for donations at their free carols concert in Parramatta Park next weekend.

Since the beginning of the year 75 women and 20 children have been killed by domestic violence in Australia.

Guy added that it was especially important because it was often at this time of year that abusers would use money to emotionally blackmail women to stop them from leaving.

‘That’s what a lot of men will use against their partners, telling them “good luck buying Christmas presents for the kids”,’ he said.

The couple be joined by Reece Mastin, Sam Moran and Johnny Ruffo among others.

And while it is unclear if Jules will join her husband on stage the pair did recently hint at having a duo in the works.

Appearing together on Weekend Today last month, Guy revealed that they had talked about it.

‘Can you be tempted for a duet?’ the show’s anchor Peter Stefanovic asked.

And while Jules said ‘No’, Guy let slip it was something the pair were thinking about.

‘You’ve been warming to the idea,’ Guy said, appearing to be interested in sharing the stage with his wife.

Despite confessing she doesn’t consider herself a serious singer, Jules admitted that she sings songs by Beyonce, Britney Spears and Mariah Carey in the shower.
