Huge explosion at Manchester factory

A huge explosion has ripped through a pipe factory in Greater Manchester. 

Firefighters and police were called to a manufacturing plant in Littleborough at around 6pm tonight after a large bang was heard across the area.

Photographs shared on social media showed several fire crews outside the factory, with damage visible to the side of the building.

John Whatmough said he ‘thought a car had come off the road’ and into his home following the explosion at CRP pipe manufacturer in Greenvale Business Park. 

Firefighters and police have rushed to the scene, with road closures in place and motorists and pedestrians told the avoid the area

A fire service spokesman confirmed that two crews and three specialist teams were sent to reports of an explosion on Todmorden Road at 6.04pm.

There are no reports of injuries, the spokesman added. The extent of the damage is not yet known.

A fire service spokesman has confirmed the following: ‘We were called to Todmorden Road just after 6pm to reports of an explosion.

‘We have two pumps (fire engines) and three specialist vehicles at the scene. The cause of the incident and the damage are not yet known. There are no reported injuries.’
