Instagram is DOWN: Social media fury as users around the world discover they cannot access the site

  • Instagram users Tuesday morning have found they are unable to log onto the site
  • It’s affecting users around the world, though UK and East Coast US are worst hit
  • Users having issues refreshing app feed, accessing desktop site, and logging in

Instagram users hoping to check their feed first thing this morning have been met with an unexpected greeting: ‘Sorry, something went wrong.’

The site has crashed all around the world, with the US East Coast and the UK hit especially hard by the outage.

Frustrated users took to Twitter to find out if they were the only ones experiencing the issues – and quickly realized they were not.

The issue appears to be affecting users all over the world. The US East Coast and the UK have been hit especially hard, though there are outages in South America, Asia, and other parts of the US and Europe

The problem appears to have started just before noon (ET) for most Instagram users.

In the last hour, thousands of reports have come in from all around the world.

Most have reported that are having issues with the News Feed (49 percent).

For those already logged into the app, this means you might be met with the error message: ‘Couldn’t refresh feed.’

Users are also having problems accessing the desktop version of the site, with the website accounting for 27 percent of reports.

Unlucky users who weren’t already logged into the app have found themselves locked out altogether.

It’s unclear what’s behind the problems with the app this morning, though it appears to have worsened between noon and 12:30 p.m. (ET.), with more than 3,000 reports logged on DownDetector alone.

Dailymail.com has contacted Instagram for comment.

As of around 12:40 p.m. the site appeared to be working again for some users – but, many others still complained that they could not refresh their feeds.
