Labour MP Keith Vaz still under investigation after for his involvement with male prostitutes

Labour MP Keith Vaz still under investigation two years after he was exposed for his involvement with male prostitutes

  • Investigation of Labour MP Keith Vaz is on hold because of medical reasons
  • He also has a schedule busy enough to prompt a complaint from a Tory MP
  • He allegedly bought cocaine and was involved with male prostitutes

Labour MP Keith Vaz is still under investigation nearly two years after a newspaper exposed his involvement with male prostitutes.

He stood down as chairman of the Commons home affairs select committee in September 2016 after The Sunday Mirror reported he had discussed buying cocaine with a rent boy.

He was filmed saying he would pay for the class A drug but would not take it himself.

Text messages allegedly showed him asking the escorts to bring sex-enhancing drugs to his North London flat.

In December 2016, police dropped an investigation into the MP over the allegations.

But the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner launched a probe into whether Mr Vaz was guilty of a conflict of interest because he had been leading a review of vice laws at the time of the allegations.

The investigation was put on hold from December until March this year due to unknown medical reasons after the MP claimed he was ill. During that time the married father of two visited India and Saudi Arabia.

His busy schedule led to a complaint from Tory MP Andrew Bridgen about whether he was really too unwell to be investigated. The Leicester East MP had opened a swimming pool and attended planning meetings.

Despite his busy schedule, medical reasons have stopped the Keith Vaz investigation from progressing
