Melania Trump’s spokeswoman issues an extraordinary defense of the First Lady after ‘attack’ by CNN

Melania Trump’s spokeswoman issues an extraordinary defense of the First Lady after she was criticized by a CNN commentator

  • First Lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman slammed a CNN contributor on Saturday
  • Stephanie Grisham, the First Lady’s deputy chief of staff for communications, wrote an op-ed for CNN’s web site
  • Grisham slammed Kate Anderson Brower, a CNN contributor and author of books about First Ladies
  • Brower criticized Melania Trump for comments she made during an interview with Sean Hannity of Fox News on Wednesday
  • She wrote that Mrs Trump ‘doesn’t understand what it means to be First Lady’
  • Grisham hit back, saying Brower’s article was an ‘unnecessary attack’

First Lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman wrote a guest op-ed for CNN’s web site attacking one of the network’s contributors for being ‘condescending’ toward her boss.

Stephanie Grisham, who is the First Lady’s deputy chief of staff for communications, blasted Kate Anderson Brower for her ‘unneccessary attack’ on Mrs Trump.

Brower, a CNN contributor and author of books about First Ladies, wrote a critical piece slamming Trump for an interview she gave to Fox News.

The interview with Sean Hannity on Wednesday showed that Trump ‘doesn’t understand what it means to be First Lady,’ Brower wrote.

Trump told Hannity that ‘opportunists who are using my name’ were the hardest part about being First Lady.

Brower wrote that Trump was ‘again making the job about herself and her family instead of taking the opportunity to talk about the challenges she sees other people facing.’

Grisham wrote on Saturday that Brower published her article ‘hours after the First Lady traveled to Children’s National hospital in Washington to read a Christmas story, visit sick children and thank the hardworking hospital staff.’

She also blasted the press for ‘consistently ignoring the First Lady’s work on behalf of the people of this country, and children in particular, in favor of more trivial matters.’

Grisham wrote: ‘For Brower to claim that Mrs. Trump’s interview was “a lost opportunity to put attention on families of struggling Americans she’s met in her role as first lady” is to willfully ignore everything she has actually done to help and support children and families across the globe as a commitment to service she has consistently demonstrated over the past two years.’

Trump’s spokesperson also mentioned the Be Best initiative, which was aimed at combating cyberbullying.

Grisham chastised the media for the cynical reaction to the First Lady’s initiative ‘presumably because they disagree with her husband’s use of Twitter.’

‘News personalities and outlets use the “Be Best” hashtag to taunt her about her husband, instead of focusing on the underlying message of kindness and compassion the campaign is intended to convey,’ Grisham wrote.

Grisham has been combative in her role as the First Lady’s chief defender.

In September, she accused the hosts of The view of disparaging the First Lady because of her accent.

Grisham tweeted that the hosts of The View were ‘disrespectful and hypocritical’ for ‘mocking someone’s accent.’

The spokeswoman also slammed Issa Rae, the actress who stars in the HBO hit show Insecure, for saying that the show should be canceled if Melania Trump liked it.

In June, Grisham publicly smacked down the President’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who went on television and said that the first lady believes her husband’s denial of a 2006 affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.

‘I don’t believe Mrs. Trump has ever discussed her thoughts on anything with Mr. Giuliani,’ Grisham told The New York Times.
