MTV says sexual misconduct accusations against Catfish star Nev Schulman are ‘baseless’

Nev Schulman was cleared of any wrongdoing on Friday after an investigation by MTV into allegations of sexual misconduct

MTV has dismissed allegations of sexual misconduct against Nev Schulman, the creator and star of its show Catfish.

On Friday, the network announced that it had resumed filming after determining that the claims made against Schulman by Ayissha Morgan, who appeared on the show in 2015, were ‘baseless’.

‘Although we never received a formal complaint, MTV and Critical Content immediately engaged an independent third party investigator.

‘The independent investigator found the allegations made in the YouTube videos to be not credible and without merit,’ an MTV spokesman told US Weekly.

Since then, a vindicated Schulman has been thanking fans on Twitter who say they never doubted him.

In May, Morgan filmed two confessional-style YouTube videos where she alleged that Schulman tried to coax her into having sex with him to prove to herself that she was, as she had told him she was, a lesbian.

Schulman denied them at the time and said there were colleagues present for all of their interactions who could vouch for the fact that he had never been inappropriate.

In a statement at the time, he said: ‘The behavior described in this video did not happen and I’m fortunate that there are a number of former colleagues who were present during this time period who are willing to speak up with the truth.

‘I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions — but these claims are false.’

Morgan did not use Schulman’s name when she first made her allegations.

In the first video, she told the camera that the show’s ‘main guy Jack’ was who had harassed her.

‘He just kept asking me, “Are you a lesbian or are you bisexual?” I was like, ‘I’m a lesbian for the 50th f**king time.”‘

She alleged he replied: ‘I don’t think you’re a lesbian. You need to let me take you out and you’re really pretty.’

Later, she said he asked her: ‘I don’t think you met the right guy yet, do you think I’m attractive?’ and claims he told her to try having sex with a guy.

She also alleged that he told her he had a large penis.

She also made allegations against an assistant called ‘Carol’ who she claimed piled her with alcohol and lured her to her hotel room claiming she had two beds when she had one.

‘The last thing I remember… I was just drunk off my a**,’ she said, going on to claim that she woke up with ‘Carol’ ‘on top of her’.

She then said that Jack also invited her to his room again while she was waiting on a new key card to her own room. She said Jack continued to ask her if she thought he was attractive.

‘I was sitting on the bed and he [Jack] was sitting at his desk across the room,’ Morgan said.

She claimed that he then asked her what happened between her and Carol, to which Morgan replied: ‘I don’t know.’

‘He was like, ‘Well how about you do what you did to Carol on me?”‘ Morgan said. ‘He laid on the bed and grabbed my arm.’

Morgan said she pulled her arm away, walked out and sat in front of her door until someone brought her her room key.

‘I had the worst time. It was just adding and adding to my depression,’ Morgan said.

Schulman met his now-wife Laura Perlongo in 2015 and the couple welcomed their daughter Cleo James in 2016. They married in 2017.

Perlongo is a freelance copywriter and creative director who graduated from Boston University in 2007.
