A father has died watching his daughter play football.

The man, from a New Zealand Christian group, was suffering from a medical complication.

He collapsed as his daughter played a Sunday afternoon game at Kelston Boys High School in Auckland, the New Zealand Herald reports.

His Community Christian Fellowship had hired the school oval for their weekly Sunday service game when the tragedy occurred, at Kelston in the city’s west.

St John Ambulance New Zealand  confirmed an emergency call was made shortly after 1pm on Sunday, with the man dying as he watched his daughter play football.

‘A game or training was either about to begin or in progress. He was not playing,’ a spokesman told the newspaper.
