YouTube star Shane Dawson has announced his engagement to his boyfriend of three years just days after facing backlash for a resurfaced joke he made online about having sex with his cat.
The 30-year-old, who has more than 21 million subscribers, revealed he was engaged to his boyfriend, Ryland Adams, on Tuesday night in a proposal involving Shane dropping down on one knee.
‘He said yes,’ Shane announced excitedly on Twitter and Instagram while sharing three pictures of the moment he proposed during the couple’s three-year anniversary celebration.

Ryland also shared his enthusiasm for the proposal on his own Instagram account, writing: ‘We’re engaged!! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I’ve never been happier in my whole entire life!’
Shane also took to Twitter to let his followers know that Ryland said yes after he dropped down on one knee.
‘This is the best night of my life ahhhhh,’ the YouTuber expressed on Twitter. ‘Thank u guys for all the love my heart is literally gonna explode.’
The happy news comes with its drawbacks as Shane had to publicly deny he ever had sex with his cat a few days prior after a podcast resurfaced online from 2015.
During the 2015 podcast, Shane said he had done ‘terrible things’ to his pets.
‘One time, I laid my cat down on her back,’ he said, before adding that he ‘came all over her’ after ‘dry humping’ the animal.
Shane went on to say in the podcast that he was 19 years old at the time to the shock of the other co-hosts he was speaking to at the time.
The podcast resurfaced online on Sunday and forced Shane to make a public statement on Twitter to address the rumors of the YouTuber performing sexual acts on his cat.

‘I didn’t f**k my cat. I didn’t cum on my cat. I didn’t put my d**k anywhere near my cat. I’ve never done anything weird with my cats,’ Shane tweeted on Sunday.
‘I’ve apologized many times for all the dumb s**t I’ve said in videos and podcasts over the years. I’ve learned my lesson over and over again and I’m more confident now in my ability to be entertaining by just being myself and not being so shocking for laughs.
‘That story was fake and was based on a dumb awful sketch idea I had years ago that I never made (THANK GOD) and when the opportunity came up for a funny moment in the podcast I told it as if it was a real story which was DISGUSTING and VERY VERY DUMB.
‘There’s so many things I’m so proud of. But all of my offensive jokes, over the top stories, and insensitive jokes are something that still haunt me and something I have to be faced with everyday on the internet. And it never gets easier.’
Shane’s long statement went on where he apologized for making the crude jokes regarding his pet.
‘So, I’m sorry for what I said about my cat, I’m sorry for what I said about anything or anyone that was offensive, and I’m sorry for being someone who thought being super offensive and shocking all the time was funny,’ he wrote.

The cat controversy was not the first time Shane found himself having to address crude statements he previously made.
On his podcast, he also made comments about pedophilia and said a six-year-old Instagram star was ‘sexy’.
‘She shows me her Instagram, and — first of all, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but she was kind of sexy,’ Shane said in the podcast.
His shocked co-host said his comments were ‘disgusting’ and added that he had a disturbing ‘justification for pedophilia’.
Shane responded by saying: ‘Having sex with children or touching children is terrible and you should not do it. But, here’s my thing, people have foot fetishes. People have fetishes about everything.’
On Sunday, Shane admitted a goal for his podcasts at the time was to shock people by his stories and jokes. But he now deeply regretted thinking those statements were OK.
‘It’s embarrassing and I f**king hate myself for it,’ Shane tweeted.
