Tina Brown: George Clooney’s wife will kill president bid

  • There has been speculation one day he might himself run for the White House

George Clooney’s wife Amal would not let him run for President but fellow actor Tom Hanks is considering it, former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown has said.

There has been speculation that Clooney, 56, who supported the campaigns of Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and backed Hillary Clinton in 2016, will one day run for the White House.

The actor married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin on 2014 and she gave birth to twins Ella and Alexander this year.

But in an interview with Grazia, Brown said: ‘I’m not sure he would want to put himself up there for this absolute, this very harsh, horrible process. I’m not sure he would want to do that to his own wife, or that Amal would want to do it to their life, frankly.

‘He might feel that he’s more influential not doing it, although I’m sure he thinks about it. I’m sure there are other actors who think about it too. I’m sure Tom Hanks thinks about it.’

Actress Julianne Moore, a close friend of Clooney’s who stars in his Suburbicon, also played down the idea of him running for the White House: ‘I can’t bear it, this idea of relating leaders with entertainment figures.

‘What you want is a president who is experienced in government. I don’t even want to joke about movie stars being president of the US.’

Referring to his wife she added: ‘You can see the difference in his personality, how settled he seems… he adores Amal.’

Hanks name started popping up for President after previously joking about running alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson during an Saturday Night Live opening monologue skit back in March.
