Alert for thousands of Aussie drivers as 57,000 Kia cars are urgently recalled over fears they could catch FIRE even when switched off

- Owners have been urged to park the cars outside and away from homes
Two popular Kia cars have been urgently recalled amid fears 57,000 vehicles could burst into flames even when switched off.
The models at the centre of Monday’s recall are the Kia QL Sportage, made between 2016 and 2021, and the CK Stinger, made between 2017 and 2019.
About 57,800 Australians own an affected car.
According to Product Safety Australia, there is defect that controls the Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control System and Traction Control System.
If water enters the systems, the wiring could short-circuit and catch fire even if the cars are parked with the ignition off.
Anyone who owns either of the two models has been urged to park it away from their homes and anything flammable.
Kia has urged Australians to contact their nearest dealership to arrange for an inspection and immediate repair, which will be free of charge.
