Australia’s east coast shivers through freezing start to spring

Spring has sprung but with cold temperatures hard to shake off, it is still far too soon to pull out the sunscreen.

Unseasonable temperatures are sweeping across the country, with Melbourne struggling to even push above 20 degrees this week.

This time last year Victoria had recorded its first 30 degree day following winter, but there seems to be no chance of that this year with a low forming across the east coast.

You might need to rug up this week if you’re in Sydney or Melbourne, Spring is not bringing warmer temperatures just yet

Colder temperatures are dragging across Sydney at the start of the week, bringing a chance of showers too, Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said.

However, a change is expected on Thursday for both Sydney and Melbourne.

Temperatures are expected to sizzle towards the end on the week for Sydneysiders, with a high of 28 degrees predicted.

Melbourne’s high is sadly still in the low 20s but that will make a nice change from the chillier temperatures they’ve been seeing.

Both Sydney and Melbourne are being hit with unseasonably low temperatures this week. Melbourne is struggling to push above 20C

The warmer weather does not stick around long. As Melbourians head into their long weekend they can expect a few showers on Friday and Saturday. The high on Saturday is set around 15C.

Canberra can expect a cold start on Tuesday with frosts predicted.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms in the capital later in the week, with light winds becoming north westerlies from Thursday.

Cool temperatures are on there way at the start of the week but a change is expected on Thursday and Friday for both Sydney and Melbourne

In the top end, Darwin is looking at a scorching week with temperatures soaring to 35C on Tuesday. The high temperatures are expected to hang around all week.

Hobart will sadly see showers throughout the week. The rain will start to clear by Friday night but cloud is still expected over the weekend.

Adelaide has a sunny start to the week before rain develops, clearing just in time for the weekend.

Brisbane should expect showers at the start of the week but weather is improving with temperatures reaching 28C on Saturday.

Is it Spring? The fleeting hot weather will be replaced by more of a chill as the week goes on
