The Queensland Liberal National Party has kicked an own goal after a staffer posing as the party’s leader defended her Facebook page from an anonymous shell account called ‘Qld Labor Lies’.

When Queensland LNP leader Deb Frecklington’s Facebook page posted a picture of her visiting a solar panel array in Townsville, one of her followers typed a stinging criticism.

‘Until I see a photo standing next to a low emission coal fired power station being built.. I  put you in the same dumb classification as the left wing lunatics hell bent on destroying our economy and way of life!!,’ the follower wrote.

A response defending the Queensland LNP leader’s position swiftly came from an anonymous account named ‘Qld Labor Lies’.

‘I agree the left is destroying Queensland but to be frank you probably need a closer look at my policies including my plan to open up the Galilee Basin. It isn’t either/or we can have both resources and renewables,’ the account wrote.

The Queensland Labor Lies Facebook page is registered to the Spring Hill address of Queensland LNP headquarters, the home base of Labor’s main political rivals.

The comment appeared to have come from Ms Frecklington herself, as it spoke of ‘my policies’ – and the internet was quick to screenshot the blunder.

It soon appeared on Nuffies of Australian Politics, a popular Facebook page with 24,000 followers, where an avalanche of sarcastic responses soon followed.

‘Fantastic. Great move. Well done Deb,’ wrote commenter after commenter, as they referenced a recent gaffe by Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor who wrote those words to congratulate himself from his own Facebook account.

It is believed Mr Taylor’s comment was meant to be posted from a fake Facebook account instead of the official one in a bid to boost positive engagement.

The post was quickly deleted but not before the internet caught wind of the gaffe.

His words of praise have now become a meme for fake social media comments.

One creative spark made a Venn diagram to show the overlap between ‘Fantastic’, ‘Great move’ and ‘Well done’ with a picture of Mr Taylor in the centre, and awarded it to Deb Frecklington’s Facebook post.

A Queensland LNP spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that Ms Frecklington did not write the post.

‘Queensland Labor Lies is a clearly authorised account calling out the Palaszczuk Government’s many failures,’ the spokesperson said via email.

‘The fact it promotes the LNP team is hardly surprising. Labor have many, many accounts doing exactly the same thing.

‘Deb has no access to the account and doesn’t use it at all. It was a mistake made by one of Deb’s team trying to respond on her behalf to a constituent.’

The Qld Labor Lies account was authorised by Queensland LNP campaign director Lincoln Folo, but it is not known how many staffers have access to it, who has access to it, or why they would be posting as if they were the LNP leader.
