Bonnie Tyler teases Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Bonnie Tyler gave a preview for her upcoming performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart during a solar eclipse on Monday.

The Welsh singer, 66, sang a line from the iconic song during her appearance on CNN.

She will be belting out the eighties power ballad as a guest performer on a cruise ship during the spectacle, where the Earth’s surface will be plunged into darkness.

During her CNN appearance, Bonnie sang the lines: ‘I need you more than ever, and if you only hold me tight, we’ll be holding on forever.’

As she performed a capella, CNN presenter John Berman lit a flame.

The artist is on Royal Caribbean’s Total Eclipse Cruise, where she will sing the tune as the eclipse occurs; DNCE will perform with her.

A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, the perfect alignment of which causing complete darkness for a short amount of time.

After a long 99 years, all of North America will witness the rare astronomical phenomenon, seen from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, on Monday.

And given the rare celestial display, Bonnie has been roped in to perform her iconic tune on board the Oasis of the Seas cruise, which departed Orlando, Florida for the Caribbean on Sunday.

The ship will be positioned in the path of totality.

Ensuring that it is truly a magical moment for all the passengers on board, as well as herself, the songstress has had to rearrange the famous tune about heartache.

'It doesn’t happen very often, does it?' Bonnie couldn't contain he excitement as she spoke of the upcoming once in a lifetime gig

‘The eclipse of the sun lasts 2 minutes and 40 minutes, I’m told. Unlike my song. It had to be chopped about, because it was so long,’ she confessed.

Bonnie was also deemed ‘a natural choice for this once-in-a-lifetime moment’ by the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley.

Music streaming app Spotify noted a 75 percent increase in streams for Total Eclipse Of The Heart after the solar eclipse in March last year.

In recent days, the music video for the cult classic has soared in views on YouTube in preparation for next week’s eclipse.

Making it feel like a true concert, Bonnie will be backed up by Joe Jonas’s band DNCE, who will no doubt perform their hit Cake By The Ocean.

The UK will only see a partial eclipse just before sunset on Monday and will have to wait until September 23, 2090 for the next total solar eclipse

The moon will block out 10 per cent of the sun’s diameter, and 2 per cent of its area, with dark sun spots speckling the sun’s surface

Starting around 7.30pm, the peak of the eclipse will be visible at around 8.04pm in London, at 7.58pm in Edinburgh and at 8.05pm in Cardiff. It should last around 40 minutes in total.

The partial eclipse can only take place at New Moon, as this is when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun

The last total solar eclipse in the UK was on August 1, 1999, over Cornwall and South Devon – but was for most observers almost completely blocked by clouds.
