Bournemouth win the race to sign highly-rated Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott for £25m – after fending off competition from Premier League rivals for his signature

Bournemouth have signed Bristol City starlet Alex Scott for £25m, beating Premier League rivals Wolves to his signature. 

The 19-year-old had an impressive campaign at Ashton Gate last season, making 42 league appearances. 

He won the Championship young player of the year award last season and was one of the most coveted talents outside the Premier League.

The Robins had turned down a £22m bid from Wolves earlier in the window and remained adamant that they had no intention of selling the exciting prospect. 

But the Cherries offer proved too good to ignore, and Scott has now completed his switch to the Vitality Stadium.

Robins boss Nigel Pearson had insisted the club would not budge on their valuation of Scott 

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Alex to the club, who is one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

‘He’s a player that has vast experience at such a young age with strong technical ability and a really good footballing brain.

‘Alex will be an excellent fit in our system, and we’re excited to see him continue to develop under Andoni’s management.’

On Thursday the south coast outfit looked set to complete a last minute swoop for Norwich defender Max Aarons after Leeds were believed to have agreed a deal for the Under 21 international.  

Scott and the imminent arrival of Aarons will take the number of Bournemouth arrivals to six this summer as new boss Andoni Iraola sets about first emulating and then improving upon the work of his predecessor Gary O’Neil. 

The midfielder is yet to feature for Bristol City this season due to a knee problem, which is likely to keep him out of action until September.
