A shocking brawl between a group of women has erupted outside a nightclub in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.

Police were called to the establishment early on Sunday morning after the fight spilled out onto the streets in front of shocked onlookers.

Officers were forced to use pepper spray to subdue the skirmish, with several people needed medical attention.

The incident occurred shortly after 3am outside a club on Russell Street in the Chinatown area of Melbourne.

The brawl first broke out inside the club and continued as the women were kicked out of the venue.

Police arrived to quell the carnage, with ambulance staff also called due to a number people suffering injuries.

A woman in her 20s was arrested for her role in the fight.

Images of the scene showed large amounts of discharge from the pepper spray strewn across the pavement.

Police spoke to people who witnessed the fracas and are investigating the circumstances surrounding it.

No charges have yet been laid.
