Brett Daly: Kiara’s innocence was stolen when she was just 15 by a married father, 36, who groomed her and sent nude pictures. Now she’s scared to go outside after he was released from jail after just two weeks

A married father who stole a teenage girl’s innocence by grooming her at a skate park and sending her a nude image of himself has served just two weeks in jail.

One year ago when Kiara Stewart was just 15, Sydney man Brett Daly won her trust by helping her to skateboard. Then began contacting her with increasingly inappropriate messages and images.

The teenager was a promising athlete before the traumatic ordeal but now she no longer trains because she’s afraid to leave her family’s home.

Daly, 36, eventually pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend and intention to do a sexual act with a child under 16.

Despite being sentenced to seven months in jail, he appealed and was allowed to walk free after a fortnight. 

Kiara said she’s feels ‘let down’ by the court system and wants him put back in jail.

‘It’s like absolutely wrong. I’m scared to go out in public because of that man, but he’s been let free,’ she told A Current Affair. 

‘I feel like it’s taken my teen years from me. Now I’m scared of the world.’

The brave girl, now 16, is speaking out to warn others.

‘No kid deserves to go through, like, sexual things. Being sent that content and everything,’ Kiara said.

‘It could happen to another girl. It could happen to someone younger, she may be scared to come out to her parents.’

The married man initially approached the schoolgirl at a skatepark offering to teach her how to ride a skateboard. 

Daly asked for her contact details and began to message her. 

He would sprinkle those messages with love heart and kiss emojis, which she found ‘weird’ behaviour from a man 20 years her senior.

Then Daly began to ‘FaceTime’ her and send her shirtless photos of himself.

He would even send her love song lyrics, such as lines from Celine Dion’s The Power of Love: ‘Lost is how I’m feeling, lying in your arms’.

At 5am one morning Daly sent the teen a nude image of himself, then abruptly blamed someone else.

He claimed a ‘girlfriend’ of his had gone through his Snapchat list and sent images to his contacts while impersonating him.

Daly also claimed he had to go to police.

Ms Stewart’s mum Nicole urged her to go to the police with her story. 

When Daly was arrested he admitted sending the naked photo but claimed he sent them accidently when he was drunk.

During his appeal, Judge Tanya Smith chastised Daly saying: ‘He isn’t recognising what he is actually here for… exposing an underage girl to images of himself.’

He spent just two weeks behind bars but also has to serve a three-year community service order and complete 350 hours of community service work.

Kiara’s mother Nicole said she’s proud of her daughter for speaking out.

‘She’s braver than any 16-year-old I know,’ Nicole said. 

‘She’s got the strength and determination to make sure it doesn’t happen again to anybody else.’
