British screenwriter parodies craze for nostalgia

There’s nothing wrong with the occasional trip down memory lane, but lately the craze for nostalgia accounts has seen celebrations of even the most mundane trends from the past.

So, if you feel you can’t bear to see another tribute to free toys that came with cereal in the 1980s, or TV shows that are best left in the past, Do You Remember This is the Twitter account for you.

Set up by British screenwriter Paul Rose, it pokes fun at the craze for nostalgia with a very witty selection of images that will make you feel slightly red-faced for going misty eyed over tributes to your much loved childhood toys.

One tweet asks followers if they can remember their Fisher Price television ‘accidentally picking up broadcasts from hell’, while another suggests that Snickers, which used to be a Marathon bar, was once called ‘Peanus’.

A mock up of a menu from the burger chain Wimpy, which was much-loved in the ’70s before being ousted by McDonald’s, suggests it served delicacies such as ‘filth on a plate’ and camel stomach with peas and ketchup.

Do You Remember pokes fun at the glut of nostalgic Twitter accounts, harking back to the toys, TV shows and much-loved food of the past
