Building in China covered by ice column after pipes burst

  • The four-storey ice column was found outside a building in Anshan, China
  • Temperatures in the city were around minus 10 degrees Celsius recently
  • The apartment block was waiting to be demolished, so the pipes weren’t fixed

An apartment building has become an unlikely tourist attraction in China after it was firmly covered by a towering solid waterfall.

The ice column, which stands about 10 metres (33 feet), came into being after the water pipes on the third and fourth floor burst and remained unfixed.

Many residents have come to see the unusual frozen fall after a video of it became viral online.

The building is reportedly situated in Anshan, Liaoning Province, according to a report on People’s Daily.

The daily temperatures in Anshan ranged between minus four and minus 14 degrees Celsius in winter.

According to People’s Daily, the apartment building was waiting to be bulldozed. All the residents had moved out.

It’s reported that the faulty water pipes were located in two apartments on the third and fourth floor.

They weren’t repaired because there was no one living in the building.

Workers at the local water supply company came last week to turn off the building’s water system, reported Huashang Morning Newspaper.
