According to Cedars-Sinai Integrative Health, a cupping session involves round cups being placed directly onto the skin, either heated or pumped to create a suction-like effect.

It is commonly used for pain relief and the suction is said to increase blood flow and circulation, and reduce pain commonly associated with musculoskeletal injuries.
