Canelo Alvarez has labelled fighting Conor McGregor in the future as ‘very easy money’ as he again suggested he would take on the UFC icon in the ring.

The reigning WBO and WBA super middleweight champion is regarded as one of boxing’s all-time greats with a stunning record of 61 wins and just two career defeats.

Alvarez has been preparing to fight Porto Rico’s Edgar Berlanga in a title defence bout on Saturday that many expect him to come through unscathed having been unbeaten since 2013.

The Mexican has banked millions during his sensational career but admitted ahead of his next bout that he would consider boxing McGregor for a chance at a mega payday.

McGregor has vowed to fight in the octagon again as he looks to resume his UFC career at the age of 36 and has previously crossed over to the boxing when he fought Flloyd Mayweather Jr – the opponent of Alvarez’s last defeat – in 2017.

However, despite the Irishman also pursuing success with his whiskey business and apparent bid to become Ireland’s next president, McGregor would likely be teased into fighting Alvarez

‘Yeah, why not? Then we’ll show boxing is better. Easy, easy. Very easy money… [I knock him out] at the time I want,’ Alvarez told boxing journalist Manouk Akopyan when asked about McGregor.

‘One round, two rounds, three rounds – whatever I want,’ he added when explaining how the fight could potentially look.

UFC president Dana White previously helped McGregor bank over £70m when he agreed to fight Mayweather JR and a similar package would be needed to tempt Alvarez.

McGregor hasn’t boxed since that defeat as he instead chose to focus on UFC where he has been dealt several huge injury blows in his bid to return to the global stage.

The Dublin-born fighter and Alvarez previously exchanged insults on social media, but White has recently suggested there is no current agreement over a matchup between the pair.

‘Let’s put a pin on that,’ said White when asked about the chances of a fight being put together.
