  • With Chile leading 2-0 at the break, fans were advised to take shelter before an announcement was made that the second half would be delayed
  • The winner of the match goes on to face Argentina in the championship game Sunday in New Jersey

The second half of Wednesday’s Copa America semi-final between Chile and Colombia in Chicago has been suspended because of an approaching storm, officials said.

A line of storms rolled through the area about two hours before the game Wednesday night, but cleared out in plenty of time for the teams to play the first half. 

With Chile leading 2-0 at the break, fans at Soldier Field were advised to take shelter before an announcement was made that the second half would be delayed.

‘Due to inclement weather in the immediate stadium vicinity, tonight’s Copa America Centenario match at Soldier Field has been temporarily suspended,’ authorities said.

‘Copa America Centenario and City officials are monitoring the weather closely. 

‘The safety of our players and fans is our top priority.’

The winner of the match goes on to face Argentina in the championship game Sunday in New Jersey.
