Coles’ chocolate hot cross buns have been named the best in Australia by consumer reviewers CHOICE for the third year in a row. 

During a blind test CHOICE’s expert judges gave Coles’ chocolate hot cross buns a rave rating of 84 per cent.  

With 25 per cent real milk chocolate chips and a bit of extra cocoa powder, the experts said the Coles Easter buns were the ‘most chocolatey’ of all the buns they tested.

‘Great appearance, domed and tall. Bouncy, soft texture. Good, chocolatey aroma. Moist. Good chocolate hit – lots of choc chips evident. Easy eating product,’ they said in their comments. 

Baker’s Delight’s buns came in second and the Woolworths Cadbury chocolate buns ranked third. 

The accolade comes just weeks after consumer review website Canstar Blue revealed Australian shoppers voted Coles’ chocolate Easter buns as the best in the nation.

The supermarket giant expects to sell almost 10million packets of the chocolate hot cross buns over Easter.

Victorians are currently the biggest fans and have bought more choc-filled hot cross buns than any other state with New South Wales and Queensland not far behind them. 

CHOICE also named Coles’ traditional hot cross buns, which uses at least 95 per cent Australian ingredients, as number one in the nation with Aldi and Bakers Delight as second and third.
