Comedian and actor Arte Johnson who co-starred on Laugh-In with Goldie Hawn and Ruth Buzzi dies at age 90 from heart failure

Comedian and actor Arte Johnson has passed away at the age of 90-years-old.

The star died on Wednesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles due to heart failure. He had been battling bladder and prostate cancer for three years. 

Arte is best known for his role on the TV show Laugh-In which also starred Goldie Hawn and Ruth Buzzi. The fast-moving comedy series aired from 1967 until 1973.

His biggest role was Laugh-In – where he played the character of Wolfgang – a heavily-accented former German storm trooper. 

Arte was recognized by his catchphrase: ‘Very interesting,’ and ‘Very interesting… but stupid.’ 

He previously revealed he had stumbled upon the idea of the character trait when he was watching Errol Flynn and Ronald Reagan battle the Nazis in a scene of Desperate Journey, which was released in 1942.

Arte won an Emmy for his performance in the 1968-1973 show and was also nominated twice more. 

The star also made appearances in Sally, Hennesey, Twilight Zone, Bewitched, Lost In Space, The Partidge Family and The Donna Reed Show. 

Arte is survived by his wife of 51-years, Gisela, and his twin brother, Coslogh Johnson, a TV writer for Laugh-In.

The comedic actor’s death comes after it was revealed last month that Laugh-In would be getting a reboot on Netflix 51 years as a legacy special. 

Titled, Still Laugh-In: The Stars Celebrate, the screening will see a mix of classic clips from the show with new bits performed in front of a live audience by current comedians including; Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Douglas and Rob Riggle. 

It will also see Laugh-In veterans such as Buzzi, Lily Tomlin and Jo Anne Worely step back onto the stage.
