Covid Sydney: 21 Jump Street… Aussie style: Bicycle-riding cops spotted in Bondi

21 Jump Street… Aussie style: Bicycle-riding police officers resembling Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the 2012 comedy are spotted in Bondi

In 2012 comedy film 21 Jump Street, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill play two ambitious bicycle cops chosen for a dangerous undercover mission.

And over the weekend, a resident of Sydney’s eastern suburbs spotted a pair of local officers who bore an uncanny resemblance to the characters from the movie.

While patrolling the Bondi area over the weekend, one cop watched on while the other casually popped his patrol bike up on one wheel.

Look familiar? A resident of Sydney’s eastern suburbs spotted a pair of local officers who bore an uncanny resemblance to the characters from 2012 comedy film 21 Jump Street

Both cops wore blue polo shirts and shorts, not unlike their on-screen counterparts.

Someone on the Bondi Local Loop Facebook group noticed the similarity, captioning the photo: ’21 Jump Street: Sydney.’

21 Jump Street was a surprise hit for Columbia Pictures, grossing $201million at the box office and spawning a 2014 sequel.

Multiple spin-off movies are still in the works.

The residents of Bondi have enjoyed relative freedom compared to those in Sydney’s western suburbs.

The suburb, which is part of the Waverley LGA, is not considered a Covid hotspot, and locals are allowed to go to the beach provided it qualifies as ‘exercise’.

However, not everyone is happy with the perceived inequality, with Blacktown MP Stephen Bali among those voicing his frustrations.

‘It’s not a good look to have people enjoying themselves at the beach in the east and completely locked down in the west – the Sydney basin is the Sydney basin and people should be treated equally,’ the politician told Daily Mail Australia.
