A month after getting down on bended knee, cricketer Glenn Maxwell has revealed his carefully planned proposal to fiancée Vini Raman ended up being a ‘nightmare’.

In an interview with podcast Ordineroli Speaking with Neroli Meadows on Wednesday, the 31-year-old sportsman said he was forced to propose in a Melbourne park, surrounded by kids and people walking their dogs.

Describing it as ‘awkward’, Glenn said he had originally planned to propose during a romantic walk at lunch, but ‘everything felt so wrong’.

‘I was so confident in my head about what I was going to do and it all went to s**t basically,’ he admitted.

Glenn said he was so nervous, he sweated right through his T-shirt, describing himself as ‘one giant sweat patch’.

He then decided to propose in a rose garden, but was spotted by his teammate, Will Pucovski.

‘Will Pucovski drives past, honking his horn and waving and I thought, “Well, that’s ruined Plan C.” I was rattled at that stage,’ he recounted.

He then decided to ask his girlfriend of over two years to come and meet him in a nearby park, describing it as a ‘nightmare’.

‘It’s just going so badly. She drove past as I was trying to put the ring back in the box… I hid behind a tree, would have looked like a real creep in a park,’ he said.

Despite pinpointing his location on Google Maps, he said Vini got lost and couldn’t find him, which left him ‘annoyed’.

Eventually, Vini arrived, and she was so shocked when he popped the question, she accidentally called him, with the whole proposal caught on voicemail.

‘She ended up leaving a seven-minute voicemail, and it was the entire engagement chat. I’ve still got that on my phone. So that’s pretty cool that we’ve still got that engagement memory,’ he added.
