Dancing With The Stars: Olivia Jade exits ABC show after performing twice during Janet Jackson Night

Olivia Jade and pro partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy were eliminated from Dancing With The Stars on Monday during a double elimination episode of the ABC show.

The show’s host Tyra Banks, 47, announced that Olivia and Val’s scores at the end of the two-hour episode put them ‘at the very bottom’ and they were ‘leaving right now.’

The 22-year-old beauty blogger hugged her dancing partner Val, 35, a two-time DWTS champion, when she heard the results of viewer and judges’ voting.

‘This is crazy you guys have brought so much to the competition,’ said Tyra. ‘Olivia you should be so proud of yourself you have some pro skills.’

Derek said he was sad to see Olivia go.

Country singer Jimmie Allen, 35, who was paired with Emma Slater, season 24 champion, was also eliminated from the show when the judges all decided to save ‘The Office’ actress Melora Hardin, 50, and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev over him.

The season 30 episode was dedicated to singer and dancer Janet Jackson, 55, who joined the show appearing remotely from London dressed in a black turtleneck with her braided hair in an updo.

Tyra asked Janet what she thought about her songs being danced to Latin and ballroom style numbers.

‘I think it’s great,’ said Janet. ‘I love all styles, all types of dance. It’s a way to express yourself. I should say another way to express yourself. If you don’t do it through words another way you can express is through dance.’

Tyra, who styled her outfit for the night based on Janet’s Control album cover, told Janet that she remembered going to her concerts. The show’s host and executive producer said she would watch her powerfully dance on stage and then Janet would meekly ask her if she wanted to get something to eat after the show. She said it was like two different people.

Jimmie was the first performer to take the stage and danced the Cha-cha-cha with Emma to Janet’s ‘Escapade’ in sparkly sequined outfits.

During practice, Jimmie shared that he was excited because she said he loved Janet. He also said that he had grown so close to dance partner Emma during the show that he not only brought her up on stage at one of his concerts but said that he now considered her a friend for life.

After their dance, DWTS head judge Len Goodman, 77, told them it was nice but wondered whether ‘nice’ was enough to get them into the next week.

Derek Hough, 36, said he loved their sparkly outfits but didn’t think this was their best performance.

The judges gave them a score of 32 out of 40.

Olympic gymnastic gold medalist Suni Lee, 18, and Sasha Farber admitted that last week after her dance that she had to run off the stage to throw up.

‘I was not about to throw up on national TV,’ she said. 

They danced a Samba to Janet’s ‘All For You.’ Derek said her performance was so vibrant and she had energy oozing out of her.

‘Rebooted, recharged, and running on high octane,’ said Bruno Tonioli, 65, of their performance. ‘It was a 100 percent authentic samba.’

Carrie Ann Inaba, 53, also said her performance was amazing.

The judges gave straight 10’s for a perfect score of 40 out of 40.

Melora and Artem danced the Paso doble to Janet’s song ‘If.’ During training Melora and Artem were stressed about not having enough time to practice.

Bruno said that their dramatic dance had artistry and character. Carrie Ann said her dance was amazing and powerful.

The judges gave them all 10’s for a perfect score of 40 out of 40. Melora and Artem jumped up and down when they heard the scores.

Olivia and Val danced the Argentine tango next to Janet’s ‘Anytime, Anyplace.’

‘I came on this show and didn’t think I would make it very far,’ said Olivia. ‘It’s really surreal that we could potentially make the semifinals if we make it through this week.’

Olivia said she had a small connection to Janet because her father was in Janet’s 1993 video ‘You Want This.’ She said he was in a truck in the video and that she thinks he was friends with Janet back in the early 90’s. She said her favorite memories from childhood were of dancing with her father.

‘I want to make it through this week,’ Olivia said.

After the two danced, Carrie Ann said she wanted to see a little more heat in her performance. Len told them that he loved the chemistry between them. Derek told her that her performance was so authentic and it was a ‘beautiful, beautiful dance.’

Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby, 33, and Cheryl Burke, danced a Paso doble to Janet’s ‘Black Cat.’ Cody said he loved Janet and that she was a female powerhouse.

Cody said his mother took him to his first Janet Jackson concert. He shared with Cheryl that his mother was his inspiration. He said his father died when he was only four months old and he remembered growing up being evicted from their apartment. He said she wanted to dedicate his performance to his mother.

‘It was big and bold,’ said Len after the performance. ‘It’s a men’s dance and you danced it fantastic. ‘

Bruno told him that he had ‘unleashed the beast within.’ Carrie Ann told him it was ‘fantastic you are finally bringing it all together.’

The judges gave them a score of 38 out of 40.

Amanda Kloots, 39, and Alan Bersten danced a Jazz routine to ‘Miss You Much.’ The two bickered with each other during rehearsals.

Bruno said she was in control of the dance from beginning to end. Carrie Ann was so impressed she ran out from behind her desk to hug Amanda on the dance floor.

NBA champion Iman Shumpert, 31, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Daniella Karagach performed a Cha-cha-cha to Janet’s ‘Rhythm Nation.’ He said his wife was a huge Janet fan and when they missed a concert that Janet called her after to talk to them.

For their dance number, they both wore military style outfits. Bruno told them that their dance was a great tribute to a great artist.

‘The performance was amazing,’ said Bruno.

Len said he was impressed with the precision for the group part of the dance. Derek told them they were special and delivered a very memorable performance.

The judges gave them a score of 35 out of 40.

JoJo Siwa ,18, and Jenna Johnson danced a Salsa to Janet’s song ‘Feedback.’ JoJo said she was working really hard to pull them out of ranking in the bottom two.

She also spoke about how when she came out earlier this year that her fans had been so supportive. She also shared that Sir Elton John, 74, called her to congratulate her.

‘I knew the second that I realized I was in love with a girl that not everybody was going to love it,’ said JoJo. ‘It blows my mind that some people won’t let their kids watch my videos anymore, will tell their kids they can never like me again, only because of who I love. I was no different the day before.’

She added: ‘It’s wild to think that the scariest thing, coming out to the world, was the best thing I ever did.’

The two wore sexy sparkly bodysuits for the dance. Len told her she was an excellent dancer and that she made the dream team with Jenna.

Derek said he was ‘speechless’ after the dance.

Next came the dance-off round, where winning couples could get two extra points to be added to their scores.

Tyra announced before the round that The Bachelorette star and past champion Kaitlyn Bristowe, 36,would be going on tour with the other DWTS professionals this year.

Kaitlyn also took the stage for a Janet Jackson dance number.

Suni competed in her dance off against Jimmie performing a Salsa to Janet’s ‘Daddy Yankee.’ They were judged by Bruno. Bruno said it was hard to decide between the two because they both did such great performances. He eventually decided that Suni was the winner. Suni got two bonus points added to her total.

Olivia competed in the dance off against JoJo. They danced the Rhumba to Janet’s ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’ and were judged by Carrie Ann.

Carrie Ann said ‘that is the dance off of dance offs.’ She declared JoJo the winner of the round.

Melora competed in the dance off round by doing a Foxtrot to Janet’s ‘Again’ against Iman. Derek judged the round. He said they were both great but decided that Melora was the winner of the competition.

For the last dance off, Cody competed against Amanda dancing the Cha-cha-cha to Janet’s ‘ Together Again.’ They were judged by Len. He said he was ‘too old to take all this pressure’ and that they both ‘put the Cha in challenge.’

Ultimately, Len said Amanda was the winner.

Dancing With The Stars will return next Monday for the semifinals on ABC.

In 2006, season two contestant Romeo Miller withdrew from Dancing With The Stars due to an injury and was replaced by his father Master P.

Pro dancer Derek Hough during season six in 2008 pulled his neck during rehearsal and missed a week of dancing.

Derek during season seven also blacked out during rehearsal after tripping and landing on the back of his head.

Season seven also saw the departure of Misty May-Treanor after she was injured during practice and ruptured her Achilles tendon.

Nancy O’Dell withdrew from season eight due to a torn meniscus, along with Jewel who fractured both her tibias just before the season premiere.

Steve-O also suffered a pulled back muscle during dress rehearsal in season eight and was unable to perform the salsa live.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay during season nine withdrew from the competition in week three after injuring his foot during rehearsals before the premiere.

Pro dancer Cheryl Burke announced on September 26, 2021, that she had tested positive for COVID-19 before the second episode of season 30. Her celebrity partner Cody Rigsby tested positive for the coronavirus a few days later and they continued competing together, but dancing in separate rooms.
