Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes once spent $447,000 above the guide price for The Block’s Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles’s home. 

And on Monday, the 48-year-old comedian revealed he once lost $100,000 when he invested in a failed nightclub venture.  

Speaking on Hit’s Carrie & Tommy, Dave said: ‘I once invested in a bar and my share- I’m going to be unrelatable here to some people – my share cost $100,000.’

‘I was trying to leverage my profile to make the bar happen, but also I wanted to get joy out of it,’ Dave explained.

‘I don’t drink and I had a wife at the time… I invested $100,000 for my share and I sold that share for $1.’

Ed pointed out that cricketer Steve Smith invested had also invested $100,000 in another venture, Koala Mattresses, which is now worth $12.1 million. 

‘That was a dagger through the heart when I read that!’ Dave jokingly said.  

Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little were handing over to Dave and Ed, who has replaced Kate Langbroek since she moved to be with her family in Italy.

Another big investment the comedian made was the $3.1 million purchase of The Block’s Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles’s home. 

During the television show auction, Hughesy scooped up the house with a $2.62 million reserve for an extra $447,000.

‘I went to get a bank loan the other day and they haven’t valued it the same as I paid for it, which is fine, but annoying because there were five bidders,’ he told Channel Ten at the time.
