Denver Broncos’ Russell Wilson hits back at his former coach Pete Carroll

Denver Broncos’ Russell Wilson hits back at his former coach Pete Carroll, after he took a jab at the quarterback wearing a wristband in game to call plays for his team

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has responded to the jab taken at him by former head coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll appeared to take a shot at Wilson without naming the QB, while answering a question about Geno Smith during a recent radio appearance.

‘If you notice, Geno’s going off the wristband, and that’s a big help,’ Carroll said.

‘It’s smoothed things out, sped things up, cleaned things up. And that’s part of it, too. We never did that before. There was resistance to that, so we didn’t do that before.’

Though Carroll did not reference Wilson directly, the QB started all but three games for the Seahawks over the last 10-years. It was noted that he was seen wearing a wristband to call plays in the Broncos win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Wilson was asked about the comments to which he responded by saying: ‘I don’t know exactly what he said, but [we] won a lot of games there without one on my wrist.’

‘I didn’t know winning or losing mattered if you wore a wristband or not. I think I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that we’re rolling, and moving, and everything else.’

‘The few times I’ve definitely worn a wristband depending on the game plan, what we’ve got called and all that stuff.’

It is not the first time Carroll has taken a not-so-subtle shot at his former QB this season either.

‘After the Seahawks’ 17-16 victory in the season opener, Carroll went on the radio and said that the Seahawks wanted to force Wilson to move to his left before he threw and that ‘it’s hard for him numbers-wise and all that.’

Wilson would go on to have his best outing of the season that game, throwing for 340 yards and a touchdown.
