Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton is spending $100 million to upgrade Empower Field at Mile High just over a year after acquiring the team for $4.5 billion.

The renovations are some of the most extensive in the history of the stadium.

‘As we look toward the future with the long-term plans for our stadium, we are equally focused on the present to ensure Empower Field at Mile High remains a premier sports and entertainment venue,’ said Broncos president Damani Leech.

The most crucial part of the renovations were a 72-foot-tall and 225-foot-wide video board that will sit high above the south end zone.

There are also 12 new restaurants and several ‘autonomous markets’ to buy food throughout the stadium.

The renovations to the stadium are not the only changes Walton has made this offseason, as he also brought in Sean Payton to be the team’s new head coach following a disastrous season under the leadership of Nathanial Hackett, who is now the Jets offensive coordinator.

The Broncos finished the season 5-12 despite a blockbuster trade during the offseason for quarterback Russel Wilson.

Wilson had what seemed to be the least productive season of his outstanding career and fixing his game will be perhaps the most important part of Payton’s job.

Denver also made headlines on Tuesday by trading tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

The 25-year-old was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft after he played his college ball at the University of Missouri.

Okwuegbunam had came into last season expected to be the starting tight end before eventually falling down the depth chart. The Broncos tight end group is now led by Greg Dulcich and Adam Trautman.
