It was only when Raza, a caretaker of a congregation hall in Sada-e-Imam Hussain, refused to pay for Rafique’s medical treatment and compensation that he reported it to police.

Rafique had been hired to work on the building of the congregation hall but when he demanded wages after completing the job, Raza told him to come later.

According to Gulf News, police said: ‘The caretaker kept delayed the payment.

‘But when Rafique persisted, Raza got annoyed and unleashed his pet lion on him.

‘The lion wounded his face and arm.’

Rafique’s cries for help caught the attention of passersby who rescued him from the lion.
