Emma Raducanu could lose her British number one ranking TODAY as she continues recovery from injury

Emma Raducanu faces losing her British No 1 ranking TODAY as she continues to recover from injury… with Katie Boulter to overtake her if she wins at Surbiton

  • Raducanu is recovering from surgery on both her wrists and her left ankle
  • She will be out of action for the foreseeable future and will miss Wimbledon
  • Boulter could overtake her today while Katie Swan could leapfrog both

Emma Raducanu could be set to lose her place as Britain’s number one ranked female tennis player.

The former US Open champion is out of action with injury and has struggled for form since winning the Grand Slam in 2021.

She soared up the rankings after winning the Open, reaching the top 25 in the world and becoming British number one, reaching a career high of tenth in the world in July 2022.

But since then she’s struggled massively with injury issues, and is currently sidelined with wrist and ankle injuries and will be out of action for the rest of the clay season and the whole of the grass season, meaning she will miss Wimbledon.

If Katie Boulter is to beat Victoria Golubic in the Lexus Surbiton Trophy on Friday, she will move above Raducanu, with Katie Swan able to end the week with more points than both players if she goes on to win the title.

Raducanu started the year ranked 78 in the world, but retired in the second round of the Auckland Open in January with an ankle issue.

After losing to Coco Cauff in the Australian Open, the Brit took a month off and planned to return at the ATX Open but withdrew due to tonsillitis.

Her wrist issues, which began in 2022, continued, though she enjoyed relative success in the Indian Wells Open with wins over 20th seed Magda Linette and 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Katie Swan, meanwhile, could finish one more points than both players if she wins the tournament

She however lost in the fist round of the Miami Open and tried to find a long-term solution to the issues, withdrawing from the Madrid Open hours before her first match after a loss in the first round of the Stuttgart Open.

Raducanu then underwent surgery on both wrists and her left ankle, ruling her out of action for the foreseeable future.

She has also parted ways with her coach, Sebastian Sachs, during her time away from the court.

Boulter, meanwhile, is ranked 154th in the world but is eyeing the British number one spot. Swan is ranked 150th worldwide.
