Female celebrities who earn a lot more than their male partners

Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Alex Rodriguez are all incredibly successful men. Each is at the top of his field and has raked in millions upon millions of dollars over the years.

Yet not one of the them is nearly as successful as his significant other.

In honor of International Women’s Day, clothing brand Missy Empire took a look at the salaries of some of the most famous couples in entertainment — and found that it’s the ladies who are really making bank.

Launched in a fun interactive page called Who Run The World?, the data celebrates famous women who are financial powerhouses.

‘Being a powerful female has never been more achievable than in 2018, but finding that work/life balance is always tricky,’ the site reads. ‘There are some boss women who have swapped singing all the single ladies to putting a ring on it — and are showing us that you can have it all when it comes to both your career and relationship.’

Of course, the famous couples spotlighted are the exception, not the rule. In the US, the pay gap still puts women at a disadvantage.

In 2017, the Pew Research Center found that women still earn 83 cents to the dollar earned by men, while Georgetown’s Center on Education and the Workforce put the number at 81 cents.

Women like Beyoncé, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid stand out for earning much more than the men in their lives.

‘These power couples are the queens and kings of their fields, but it is the ladies who are putting their money on top, as well as their love,’ Missy Empire writes.

The highest-earning couple in the report is Bey and Jay, who make a combined $149.1 million (£108.4 million) per year.

But while Jay-Z brings in $45.3 million (£32.8 million) each year thanks to his music and business holdings, his wife earns $104.3 million (£75.6 million) — more than twice as much as her man.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West earn a combined $59.1 million (£42.8 million) annually. But though Kanye rakes in $17.4 million (£12.6 million) for music, his Yeezy fashion line, and other deals, his wife has a whole empire to rule over — and $41.7 million (£30.2 million) in earnings.

She earns nearly two and a half times as much as he does.

It also doesn’t help that while Kim is making bank from her apps, KKW Beauty collection, brand partnerships, and TV show, Kanye recently claimed $53 million in debt.

Kim’s little sister Kylie has nearly caught up with her when it comes to earning potential, taking in a whopping $40.7 million (£29.5 million) a year.

Though she has reality TV, fashion collections with her sister Kendall, and sponsorship deals, most of that cash is likely coming from her Kylie Cosmetics line, which is said to be a billion dollar business.

So how does she compare to her boyfriend and baby’s father, rapper Travis Scott? It’s not even a contest: Travis earns just $830,000 (£601,400) a year, meaning Kylie earns thirty times as much as he does.

Jennifer Lopez earns about $37.8 million (£27.4 million) per year, which is 1.8 times as much as her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez. Though A-Rod is one of the most successful baseball players in the world, J.Lo has music, hosting gigs, perfume sales, and a Las Vegas residency keeping the cash flowing.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are a power couple, too, with joint earnings of $38.5 million (£27.9 million) — but 85 per cent of that is pouring into Katy’s bank accounts.

Orlando makes $5.8 million (£4.2 million) per year as an actor, while Katy’s music career and beauty endorsements have her earning $32.9 million (£23.8 million).

In a single year, she’s making more than five times as much as the Lord of the Rings star, though he doesn’t seem to mind.

It might surprise some to learn that Gigi Hadid makes considerably more than her former One Directioner beau Zayn Malik.

Though his career as a musician has him making $5 million (£3.6 million) annually, her modeling gigs amount to $9.4 million (£6.8 million) in earnings, nearly twice as much as his.

Less of a surprise is the fact that Meghan Markle has made quite a lot more from her career than her future husband, Prince Harry.

The 33-year-old royal banks just over $44,000 (£32,000) from the British Army Air Corps, compared to the $447,000 (£324,000) Meghan made yearly for being on Suits.

To be fair, though, that’s just salary: Prince Harry also has access to his family’s estate and the £10 million left to him in a trust fund by his mother.

It’s only in the Beckham household that income is about even. Both Victoria and David earn about $8.6 million (£6.2 million) each every year, thanks to his endorsement deals and her fashion line.

In fact, they keep the money coming in all together anyway, with Beckham Brand Holdings controlling all of their businesses.
