Massive fire breaks out at a Sydney school as thick smoke can be seen billowing from the burning building

  • Firefighters have rushed to battle a fire at Lane Cove Public School in Sydney

  • Firefighters have contained the blaze within the hall, with no injuries reported 

Firefighters have rushed to battle a fire at Lane Cove Public School on Sydney’s north shore.

The blaze started on Longueville Rd after 4pm with thick black smoke seen billowing from the school as far as the Sydney CBD.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that firefighters have contained the fire within the school hall, where the blaze started.

There are eight fire trucks currently getting the blaze under control, with firefighters expected to be on the scene into the evening.

‘It will take a lot of work to extinguish,’ the spokesperson said. 

Gas has been isolated from the building, and fire and rescue crews are working to isolate electricity from the site.

No one was inside the hall at the time and no injuries have been reported.

Police and ambulance services were called to the scene along with firefighters about 4.21pm.

It is not know what caused the blaze.
